About
One of the richest natural sources of vitamin E (tocopherol), wheat germ is a heavy, intensely nourishing oil primarily used as an antioxidant additive (5–15%) in blends to extend shelf life and support skin cell renewal. Its strong, distinctive wheaty aroma makes it unsuitable as a primary carrier but invaluable as a protecting addition.
Wheat germ oil became commercially significant in the early 20th century following the discovery of vitamin E (tocopherol) as an essential nutrient. It was widely used as a vitamin E supplement and skin treatment throughout the mid-20th century and remains the richest natural source of tocopherol available.

Pairings (15)
Wheat germ has a strong, distinctive aroma that can overpower bergamot; it is best used as a minor addition (5–10%) within a carrier blend.
An extremely heavy and occlusive combination that creates very slow absorption. Any essential oils blended into this carrier mix will have prolonged skin contact — reduce EO dilutions accordingly and avoid on sensitive skin.
Adding wheat germ at 10% to a frankincense blend provides powerful antioxidant protection that extends the blend's shelf life and contributes complementary vitamin E skin-renewal action.
Wheat germ's tocopherol (vitamin E) stabilises and extends rosehip's easily-oxidised linoleic content, while both contribute powerfully to skin regeneration — a synergistic anti-ageing and scar-treatment pairing.
Wheat germ's vitamin E richness extends sweet almond's shelf life and adds antioxidant and skin-repair benefits to massage blends.
